The Future of Anti-Inflammatory Medicines
Early anti-inflammatories, such as aspirin and ibuprofen, had a major impact on pain relief and sore joints. More powerful, precisely targeted medicines are still required to treat serious diseases. Biologics (e.g. antibodies requiring injection or infusion), have been the main option to date. We are developing small molecules to deliver the precision and potency of biologics with the convenience of orally available drugs.
Our Mission
Sitala is dedicated to improving people’s lives by transforming the way we treat autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. We target the ‘first responder’ cells and innate immune pathways activated in chronic disease. With a focus on orally available drugs (a tablet or capsule) we will fill crucial treatment gaps for patients with debilitating autoimmune and inflammatory diseases.

The Challenge of Treating Inflammation
When immune cells recognise an infection or harmful substance in the body, our immune cells drive short-term, beneficial inflammation restoring us to good health. In chronic diseases, immune cells are over-stimulated, leading to sustained inflammation that damages healthy tissues. We need precision medicines that can cool these ‘hot’ cells whilst allowing beneficial components of our immune system to help us combat infections.

Our Approach
We are targeting key pathways that drive harmful inflammation, using orally available drugs that are convenient and safe for patients. Our precision medicines specifically inhibit complement either factor B (FB) or Target X. These targets are implicated in both rare and major inflammatory indications. By targeting these essential components of the innate immune response, we will move beyond alleviating symptoms, to blocking the root causes of degenerative inflammatory and autoimmune diseases.
